October 12 Staff Development

In Teaching the iGeneration, Ferriter and Garry say that, "Teaching today's learners involves much more than exposure to new websites and technology tools. It is connecting these tools with content-specific pedagogy and scaffolding their use in a structured environment so that students see authentic reasons to collaborate and communicate persuasively.”

Are You Pessimistic or Optimistic?
You may be surprised with your results of the following survey. http://stress.about.com/library/optimismquiz/bl_15optimism_quiz.htm
Keep in mind that the more you practice challenging your thought patterns, the more automatic it'll become. Don't expect major changes in thinking right away, but do expect them to become ingrained over time.

Answer the quiz above taking note of your score.  Following the quiz, look through the information and resources given to learn more about the power of optimism.

Stop and think about your score.  Think also about the messages you send out to your campus.  Are they optimistic?  Are they Pessimistic?  How can you move toward a more optimistic outlook and therefore more optimistic correspondence with your campuses?

Your objective:
Create a one-hour staff development that you can deliver to your campus on one of the resources below.
Be sure to include what your topic is and how it is done/created/implemented.  Make sure to include educational uses of this tool that would be applicable to your campus.  You will share this staff development with the group including the activities and objectives, the resources needed along with directions on how you will present it to your campus.

We should all leave with 3 one hour staff development sessions we can share with our campuses by the end of the day.  Our goal is to create these staff developments that you can use to shift the thinking of your teachers so that they realize your role is "instructional" support.  We must reprogram them by delivering quality instructional support and resources for them.
